In the past data loggers have typically had a very small amount of storage room from data to be stored. When that storage room was taken up it would commonly overwrite the existing data. In some cases, such as airplane related accidents, this proved to be extremely problematic since vital data could potentially be lost because of overwrites. Now, with the Logomatic Serial Sd Datalogger it is possible to record data literally for weeks at a time with a simple 1 gig SD memory card. Test to determine how long a 2 gig card can record for are still ongoing.
