Can Pilots Fly Planes Made From Homebuilt Aircraft Kits?
During the years I was growing up in rural New Jersey my five brothers spent a lot of time building model rockets and airplanes, like most other boys. They built them from kits and flew them in competition. Essentially, the models were toys. Recently I went to an airshow where my husband explained that several of the exhibitors would be flying models build from homebuilt aircraft kits. That statement made me nervous because I pictured big versions of the balsa wood planes my brothers created. To my relief the pilots flew well-constructed aircraft powered by standard engines. Each plane had been inspected before use and the pilots were well trained. Once I knew everyone was safe, I really enjoyed the show.
