Linux is a Unix-like computer operating system that was created by Linus Torvalds in 1991. Linux is probably one of the most prominent examples of free software and open source development: typically all underlying source code can be freely modified, used, and redistributed by anyone as based on the GNU license. Linux is open source, meaning that anyone is free to modify it, change it, and improve it. The advantages of this is that any flaws in the code are easily noticed and fixed. Linux has grown alot from the early days, and now is a world class operating system capable of competing with any other OS ever produced.
