Types of roaches

Today there are roughly 3,500 different types of roaches, most of which live in tropical and wooded regions as wild cockroaches. Only about 57 of those species of cockroaches can be found in America. Less than 1% of the cockroach population is considered pests species, those that interact and live alongside human beings.

Americans typically deal with only three species of cockroach. These species are called the German, the Oriental, and the American cockroach. Their names can be deceiving, however as these species are believed to have come from northeastern regions of Africa. The American cockroach is the largest of the three species.
