Reasons to Fear the Dentist

There are many reasons to fear the dentist.  After all, did you know that going to the dentist was ranked not that long ago as the number one fear of most people?  Absolutely astounding, isn’t it?  So, what is it about the dentist that scares people so much?  If we speculate about it for a minute, fearing the dentist isn’t such an irrational thought.  There are all those tiny, sharp instruments that they use in our mouths, which we have to keep open ourselves.  Plus, half the time, they don’t even use any sort of numbing agent which means that our gums or mouths will be sore due to all of the poking and prodding going on.  For some people, the thought of having someone that close to their mouths and looking around is not only disgusting, but downright embarrassing.  Talk about bad breath!  After your visit, the dentist will usually give you a brief lecture on brushing your teeth better (because as we all know, no one brushes their teeth the right way!). The worst news is finding out that you will have to have further dental work done on your already rotting teeth because you did a shoddy job taking care of them since your last visit six months ago!
