I know that there are scam artists in every profession — there are even some doctors and lawyers that are complete frauds, and they have to be licensed. So you’d have to expect that with something like loan modification you’re going to get your fair share of nefarious scoundrels.
But how do you tell the good from the bad? Simple. Next time you start talking to one of these guys, ask for a guarantee. The hucksters in the bunch will never give you a guarantee, and will more likely than not simply give it a good faith effort, never get anything done, and just cash your check.
